We are so excited to kick off Waterlily Wednesday by introducing Maryann, Waterlily's Manager Extraordinaire! She's Waterlily's right hand and we often find ourselves asking, "What would we do without Maryann?". Maryann lights up the shop with her fun, happy and friendly presence. On top of her cheerful personality, she is super organized, which we are not!! She gives Abbey + Catherine a peace of mind; they never have to worry when Maryann is in charge. This bohemian beauty is happiest at the beach, spending time with her husband and dog, relaxing with good friends and dancing the night away at a Phish concert (wait until you find out how many concerts she's been to!). Here is a little glimpse into Maryann's life.
Q: Can you run us through a typical Waterlily day for you?
A: There really isn’t a typical day here at Waterlily. It really depends on the day and the season. But I would say I spend most of my time helping our awesome customers, and receiving new items and best of all arranging them on the floor. I also really like to clean, which I know is kind of bizarre.
Q: What is your favorite item in your closet?
A: My favorite item in my closet I would have to say is this pair of Paris Blues denim bell bottoms I have from when I was in high school. They still fit (☺) and I wear them all the time.
Q: How did you get into fashion?
A: Honestly, I don’t even know! I just have always loved clothes and fashion, but I have always had my own style… I never really followed trends; I just kind of made my own.
Q: What was your very first job?
A: Brave New World in Point Pleasant, men’s department
Q: What’s one thing you’re willing to share that most people wouldn’t know?
A: I have seen almost 300 live concerts…75 of them being Phish shows
Q: If you were a song, what would it be?
A: Rock and Roll by Velvet Underground – covered by Phish
Q: Where’s the best place you’ve been in 2015?
A: I was very lucky in 2015; and I got to travel a lot. I went to see my favorite band, Phish, play in Florida, multiple spots in New York, & Pennsylvania. My husband and I also spent 2 weeks in Barbados in February. But my favorite place I went this year would have to be when I went to see the Grateful Dead’s 50th Anniversary in Chicago, Illinois in July. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity and was absolute magic.
Q: What does your ideal day look like?
A: My ideal weekday is getting up and taking my dog for a walk, then going to Waterlily for the day. Then when I come home I make a nice dinner for my husband and I and then after I clean up…just relax! My ideal weekend day (Saturday), after work, is going out with my husband and friends to get dinner and drinks, then going to see some live music somewhere!
Q: What is your favorite book at the moment?
A: I am actually not reading anything at the moment. I am putting all my downtime energy into learning how to embroider.
Q: Favorite weekend getaway?
A: I would have to say Cape May, NJ. Every year my entire family goes down for my grandma’s birthday and spends a long weekend there in the month of November. It is so fun to be all together and the weather at that time is perfect. It is such a nice town with so much to do…but is also super relaxing.
Q: What is your favorite thing about work?
A: That’s a tough one. I have multiple favorites about working at Waterlily. I love talking and helping our customers and I love my co-workers, all the girls are amazing that work here and really each bring something special to the Waterlily family. But I would have to say my favorite part is the clothes! I love when we get a brand new box of clothes and I get to pull it out and display it on the floor. It’s so exciting!
